Neighborhood Libraries Catching On

"We are hoping that people come and take a book and pay it forward."

A Batavia neighborhood is enjoying a fun little trend — a free library in the front yard that people can share.

"I am betting that you have heard of these little community libraries," said Heidi Files," a Whipple Avenue resident. "We were inspired to bring one to our neighborhood in Batavia, after seeing them all over the Twin City community in Minnesota."

You can find out more information about the movement at www.littlefreelibrary.org, a non-for-profit organization that is striving to promote literacy around the world.

"We built this little library and just put it in the ground last night," File said in an email on Thursday, Sept. 5. "We are hoping that people come and take a book and pay it forward. Anyone is welcome to either take a book, leave a book, or do both!"
