Here are some places to go and things to do with the family.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week. You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Look for the kids’ planner each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips — just add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know. We want to hear from you!

MOMS AND SONS NIGHT OUT
  • Where/When: 6:45 p.m. Friday at , 8 North Avenue, St. Charles.
  • Why go?Astronauts and aliens ... fly high in the sky and enjoy an intergalactic journey filled with entertainment, refreshments, dancing, games and more. A special memento of the evening will be provided. Advanced registration is required. Ages 3+.
  • Pricing: $11.50 per person for St. Charles residents; otherwise $17.
MOVIE NIGHT
  • Where/When: 4:30 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. 6th Ave.
  • Why go?  Watch a recent release on the big screen. Title choices to be posted at the ASK ME Desk. Pizza, lemonade, and popcorn will be served. Registration required. Call 630-584-9390. For grades 4-8.
  • Pricing: Free.
COOKIE & CARD DECORATING
  • Where/When: , 1492 S Randall Rd, Geneva, IL 60134, 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 11
  • Why go? Share the sweetest gesture this Valentine's Day, a freshly baked treat decorated by you and through Feb 13, Panera will donated 10¢ for every Valentine Cookie sold to Make -A-Wish.

Air Force Jazz Concert
  • Where/When: , 416 McKinley Ave, Geneva, IL 60134, at 7 p.m. Feb. 10
  • Why go? The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece big band with a diverse repertoire of traditional swing, bebop, modern jazz, vocal selections.

Artist Reception—Fermilab Art Gallery
  • Where/When: , Kirk Rd & Pine St. Batavia, IL 60510, 5-7 p.m. Feb. 11
  • Why go? Artist reception for "Through the Lens—Images by Reidar Hahn & the Particle Physics Photowalk at Fermilab"
  • Pricing: Free!
Daddy Daughter Date night
  • Where/When:  6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at , 1501 S. Raddant Rd., Batavia
  • Why go? Dads can spend quality time with their daughters ages 3-11 and dance the night away with entertainment, music, games, dessert and more. All daddy-daughter groups will have their picture taken to commemorate the special evening. Feel free to bring your own camera too!

JUST DAD N’ ME DANCE

  • Where/When:  5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at the  gymnasium
  • Why go? It's a fun, memorable night for fathers and their daughters from age 3 to sixth grade, sponsored by the Geneva Park District. There's dancing, entertainment and snacks. All couples receive a keepsake photograph.
  • Pricing: $10 per person. (Dads can take more than one daughter.)
KISSING BOOTH PET PORTRAITS
  • Where/When: , 500 S 3rd St, Geneva, IL 60134, from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 12
  • Why go? It's a hilarious Kissing Booth Pet Portraits and it benefits local animal welfare organizations! 
  • Pricing: Free
Postcards Talk At Geneva History Center
  • Where/When: , 113 S 3rd St, Geneva, IL 60134, from 2-3:30 p.m. Feb. 12
  • Why go? It's a great local history lesson for the kids. A penny to buy and a penny to send, during the late 19th and 20th centuries postcards were a cheap, efficient, and colorful means of communication.  The lecture will be presented by Christine Pyle of the Lake County Discovery Museum’s Curt Teich Postcard Archives, the world's largest publicly held repository of postcards and the materials used to produce them.
  • Pricing: $7 for adults; $5 for GHC members and students.
