HELP ARRIVES! Students, Adults Pitch in to Save the Herrington as Water Rises Over Retention Wall

An urgent plea for volunteers at The Herrington results in an outpouring of help.

Paul Ruby, operator of the Herrington Inn, made an urgent plea for anyone who can volunteer to help save the landmark business.

And help they did.

Water was overflowing the banks of the Fox River; pumps couldn't keep up. Materials were there for sandbags, but there weren't enough people/employees to get the job done in time if no one came to the rescue.

"We just need people," Ruby said.

Flooding upriver is expected to affect the Tri-Cities in the next day or two, so the Herrrington and other riverside structures aren't out of the woods, by any measure.

But that structure is in a little safer position, thanks to the volunteers who showed up on Thursday to stack sandbags and lend a hand.

The Herrington Inn is located at 15 S. River Lane, Geneva, IL 60134.

The phone number is (630) 208-7433.
