Heat Advisory and an Equestrian Show—5 Things You Should Know for Friday, July 1

Take a warning from the Kane County Health Department and the National Weather Service and keep a watchful eye out on loved ones.

Member's of our nation's military and their families will get a great deal on swimming today. 

For a fun family activity, at no cost, why not test your "roll" with a game of bowling?

Here are five things you should know today:

1. The National Weather Service has issued a from noon until midnight with temperatures soaring into the 90s. Kane County Health Department Executive Director Paul Kuehnert has asked citizens to "check the welfare of neighbors and friends who may be vulnerable to the heat illness."

2. In honor of Independence Day, active members of the United States Military will be admitted free to  and  in St. Charles. Accompanying family members will receive the twilight rate discount; $5 at Otter Cove and $3 at Swanson Pool.

3. Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne will hold an Eventing Derby starting today and running through the weekend. Spectators can enjoy various jumping and endurance events by riders of ranging skill levels, including a Dressage test. 

Lamplight says it's the premier showplace for equestrian skill in the Chicago-land area. Its world-class facilities host the highest-quality horse shows and events, including Pan-AM and Olympic selection trials. 

4. Brunswick bowling centers throughout the area will offer free bowling all weekend. Families can enjoy one free game of bowling per-day from Friday to Sunday.

5. You may find some good bargains at a  today and tomorrow from 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m. at 1436 Keim Circle in Geneva.
