Happy 100th Birthday Grand Central Terminal!

The always bustling, New York City commuter hub is celebrating its 100th anniversary today. Patch readers are sharing their favorite photos of GCT to honor the historic building.

"The beauty of this Grand Centenarian are found in intricate details forged in another time, and open spaces that emphasize the timeless mood of New York's central station," Patch reader and photographer Miriam Danar said.

"Generations have walked these halls, complex emotions played out and untold thousands traveled these rails," she said. "Happy Birthday, Grand Central - we wish you another eventful century to come!"

According to the "Literary Places" Facebook page, 81 years ago last Sunday: "Thomas Wolfe and Maxwell Perkins had gone out drinking on this day in 1932 and both wobbly headed to Grand Central Station where Perkins was catching the train home to New Canaan, CT. Wolfe got on the train with Perkins and as it was departing jumped off and severed a vein in his arm." http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=188769931147295&id=122139117830219 Perkins, the great editor who helped put together Wolfe's "Look Homeward Angel" and who edited Hemingway and Fitzgerald, had a home half a block north of the New Canaan railroad station, and it's still there.
