Good Works, Good Eats On Tap at Local Churches

Men's breakfast and community dinner will fuel volunteer labor and a car wash fund-raiser.

Residents this week can fill their tummies, stretch their minds and dirty their hands by participating in special events at area churches. Here’s a taste of what’s going on:

Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva will screen Gasland, a documentary about the environmental dangers of drilling for natural gas, from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the church, 102 S. Second St. For more information, visit the church’s website at www.uusg.org.

Fox Valley Presbyterian Church will host its monthly Third Friday Community Dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the church, 227 East Side Drive. This month’s menu features roast pork loin, mashed potatoes, corn, salad and ice cream. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the church at 232-7448.

United Methodist Church of Geneva will hold a Spring Spruce-Up Work Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21. Volunteers will meet for breakfast in the church’s Fellowship Hall, located at 211 Hamilton St., then go out in teams to perform minor home repairs and yardwork for area senior citizens, widows, single parents and others. First Congregational Church of Christ will host a Society for the Sons of God men’s group breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the church, 321 Hamilton St. Men and boys are welcome to enjoy eggs, pancakes, breakfast meats and masculine conversation. Rejoice Lutheran Church high school missionaries will hold a Wash ‘n Worship fund-raiser Sunday, May 22, at the church, 0 N 377 N. Mill Creek Drive. Students will wash cars in the church parking lot during services. Proceeds will fund the youth group’s summer mission trip to New Orleans. For more information, call the church at 262-0596.
