Geneva Remembers 19 Fallen Firefighters

There's a bond among firefighters that transcends time and space. In my experience, they are the most likely of all public servants to honor the past, to remember fires from decades ago as if they were yesterday or to stand in defense of a comrade.

And so it is only fitting—and unsurprising—to see the sign in front of the Geneva Fire Department honoring the 19 firefighters who died in Arizona confronting wildfires on the front line.

Unsurprising, perhaps, but no less special. The deaths were devastating to the Prescott Fire Department and felt hundreds of miles away in Geneva, IL.
