Geneva Fire Department to Dedicate Lencioni Memorial at 9 AM Saturday

Geneva building commissioner, tavern owner and paid-on-call firefighter Chuck Lencioni will be remembered Saturday with a dedication of the Geneva Firefighters Memorial.

The members of the Geneva Fire Department and the community will dedicate the newly completed Geneva Firefighter's Memorial in the memory of Lt. Chuck Lencioni at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at Station 1, located at 200 East Side Drive.

The event is open to the public.

Lencioni was a 30-year member of the department who succumbed to cancer in July of 2010. He had started as a paid-on-call member in his teens and was well-known throughout the community due to his ownership in the Firehouse No. 5 restaurant and tavern and later as building commissioner for the city of Geneva.

Following his death, the Fire Department received many donations in his memory from across the community. A committee comprised of Deputy Chief Scott Spencer, Lt. Fred Kriwanek and reitred Lt. John Stoffa started meeting in early 2011 to consider how the money would be spent. Based on ideas from the firefighters, the committee decided to build a memorial honoring the members of the department and dedicated to Lencioni.

Firefighters Scott Anderson and Joel McNally, who developed the design and donated many hours of their time, have been critical to its construction.

"Starting in April, more than 20 members of the department volunteered their time to the construction of the memorial. Its completion demonstrates the dedication and commitment of the firefighters to the citizens of Geneva," Fire Chief Steve Olson said in a press release.

The ceremony will start promptly at 9 a.m., and Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns will be the featured speaker.
