Fabyan Forest Preserve to Get a Facelift

New trail and fishing areas to be added, with work starting Aug. 19.

New fishing areas and a riverside trail will be added to the west side of Fabyan Forest Preserve this summer, as part of a shoreline restoration project by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.

Fabyan West Forest Preserve will undergo new trail construction from Aug. 19 to Sept. 27. Shoreline restoration is also scheduled through Oct. 25. Users may experience periodic closures of parts of the preserve and Fox River Trail, during the project. Impacted trails will have signage indicating possible closures, and where possible, temporary trail detours will be created.

The Forest Preserve District plans to add a riverside trail closer to the Fox River, complete with three fishing platforms to provide better river access for fishing, as well as to help prevent shoreline erosion. The platforms will consist of stone outcropping access points to the river.

Although the trails, roads and fishing areas will generally be open, preserve users may experience occasional, temporary closures to accommodate equipment movement and safety concerns.

Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other circumstances. For more information, contact the district at 630-232-5980.
