Beth Bales: Summer Fun Ideas Include Outdoor Movie, Wine with Lunch!

Geneva Park District offerings add some kick to summer's fun.

For this mid-June week, shortly before we all prepare to celebrate Geneva’s Swedish heritage, a few intriguing Geneva Park District offerings offer fun for divergent groups.

First, an outdoor movie that’s fun for the whole family. The movie Cars will be shown, beginning at dusk, on Thursday, June 16, at Moore Park, on Geneva Drive on Geneva’s East Side. Think of it as drive-in without the car, but with room to roam and to spread out.

The next day, women—21 and older only!—can enjoy lunch paired with wine in a new Park District offering, “Women & Wine Luncheons."

Women will gather at noon at Gibby’s Wine Den in Geneva, 1772 S. Randall Road, where they’ll be served a carefully selected menu along with two wines. The learning comes in as they explore the pairing of food and wine and how one affects the other. It’s the “perfect way to spend a summer afternoon with your girlfriends,” says the district catalog. Cost is $39 for residents and $58 for non-residents.

Both the movie and the wine luncheon will be repeated during the summer. July’s movie is Tangled, to be held at Mill Creek Community Park on July 21 while on Aug. 11, residents can view Despicable Me at Sunset Park. The Women & Wine Luncheons will be repeated at noon July 15 and on Aug. 19.
