'Art on Fire'—Paint Geneva Fire Hydrants, Just for the Fun of It!

The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30.

Wouldn't it be cool if residents could paint fire hydrants any color they wanted?

You bet it would, and you can—really—legally and everything. In fact, it's encouraged.

The Geneva Cultural Arts Commission is famous for coming up with great ideas—like the wildly popular Dancing With the Geneva Stars fundraising event. This time, they've got another fun project in the works that involves everybody and is called "Arts on Fire."

What is “Art on Fire?”

The city of Geneva in cooperation with the Cultural Arts Commission is introducing a new fire hydrant design program. The two organizations are seeking talented individuals to “adopt” and paint Geneva hydrants to display creative artwork throughout our community. There is no specific theme, but the program encourages artists to incorporate the character of the surrounding neighborhood into their design.

The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30. The selected artists will paint their hydrants throughout September. The City’s Public Arts Advisory Committee will judge the completed hydrants and announce first, second and third place winners in October.
