5 Things You Should Know for Wednesday, June 6—Free Concert at Island Park and Organic Gardening

Register today to find out how to create a family-friendly home garden, hear some free music in Island Park, or participate in a free trivia contest; here are the items in our area you might want to know about today.

Summertime concerts in the park are a good way to get the family out and dancing on a lazy Wednesday evening. You might want to consider enjoying some live classic rock performed by a local Geneva band in Island Park tonight. 

If you've ever wanted to learn how to be an organic farmer, now is your chance to sign up for a free talk this Thursday on home organic farming.

1. Attend a  by local band Gallery in starting at 7 p.m. This is sponsored by , , and in participation with the Geneva Park District.

Gallery is a seven-piece rock 'n' roll band from Geneva who have been playing together since 2006. Their musical style of classic rock covers songs from the '70s, '80s, and '90s and includes tunes from Genesis, AC-DC, Cheap Trick, Journey, Van Halen and more. 

2. Sign up today, because there are still spots available for home gardeners interested in learning more about organic farming with  starting at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday, in the North/South Room of . During this program you will find out why items like yogurt, vinegar, molasses, and ammonia are an important part of organic farming.

Farmer Bill Scheffler will discuss the key tools needed by organic farmers for growing successful crops at home. Scheffler is a third generation greenhouse grower and the owner of Pure Prairie Farm in West Chicago and Dundee.

3. Join Monterey Place, 7 W. State St., for its first Pub Trivia Night with Team Trivia starting at 7:30 p.m. Team Trivia is a live-hosted trivia event with questions ranging from sports to pop culture. The game is played in two halves, with 10 questions per half. 

Teams can be as large or small as you'd like, but the more players, the better your chances are of taking home a prize. This free event is a great way to spend time with friends during a little healthy competition. 

Food and drink specials will also be available. 

4. For only $1, kids can see the movie, "Monster House", starting at 10 a.m. at the Randall 15 IMAX theatre, 550 N. Randall Road, Batavia. They can also enjoy special offers on popcorn, candy, and soft drinks.

5. Raging Waves Water Park in Yorkville will host an exotic animal event, presented by "A Zoo to You" with three show-times: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Kids will love learning about animals during this exotic animal encounter which features from 12 to 20 different types of reptiles and mammals.
