5 Things You Should Know for Tuesday, July 5—From an Eagle Scout Project to a Diorama Contest

Find yourself doing a good deed and learning about botany along the way.

It's back to the salt mines today, after that terrific three-day Fourth of July weekend.

If you're feeling charitable, think about donating some used clothing to a worthy cause, or maybe start something artistic and build a diorama.

Here are five thing to know for the day after Independence Day.

1. Information and registration packet pick-up for the , sponsored by the , will run from today until Aug. 12. Participants will create a diorama based on a favorite book or movie using the materials of their choice The dioramas' will be judged on Aug. 20. 

Prizes will be awarded to winners in each of the following categories: Youth, Teen/Adult, and Family. For more information, please contact The Geneva Public Library

2. Just a reminder that  this week, due to the Fourth of July holiday. Folks on the East Side and near West Side will see garbage pickup on Friday instead of Thursday. Folks on the farther West Side will see picking up Saturday instead of Friday.

3. , located at 217 W. Main St., in St. Charles, will be accepting clothing  contest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from now until October. 

Claudia's make-your-own scarecrow event is a local favorite for kids and adults; clothing donations from the community are a large part in making the event a success. Claudia's Closet can be found at 217 W. Main St., St. Charles. 

4. The Geneva Rotary Meeting scheduled for this evening at , has been canceled. The next meeting will take place on July 13, 2011.

5. The Geneva City Council meets at 7 p.m.—a delay of a day due to the July 4 holiday. Among the items on the agenda are appointments to the Strategic Plan Advisory Commission and a request by Geneva Boy Scout Dan Herrera to put together a 5K race as his Eagle Scout project to raise funds to replace deteriorated U.S. flags in the downtown.
