5 Things You Should Know for Thursday, July 7—Running With The Bulls and a Classic Car Show

Handbag enthusiasts will enjoy a fall 2011 design release and don't forget to nominate your real-life super heroes for the Kane County Cougars.

has some interesting events going on today. You don't have to go far to attend two special events; a fall 2011 handbag collection and a book signing from a local artist. 

If ladies purses aren't of interest, then the Classic Car Show tonight (Thursday) might be more up your alley. 

And, stop in to a Geneva wine bar to celebrate the fine wines of Spain during the Running of the Bulls.

  • The release for designer Vera Bradley's fall 2011 line starts at 10 a.m. will have the newest Bradley prints in Mocha Rouge and Safari Sunset. Vera Bradley fans will also be able to see the new collection of handbag styles.
  • A by author and Aurora native Nancy Smith Hopp starts at 2:30 p.m. Hopp will be discussing her book, Warm Light, Cool Shadows: The Life and Art of Ruth Van Sickle Ford. Van Sickle Ford was an American painter and art teacher from the Fox Valley. She played an important role in the art and business world of Chicago during the early 20th century. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

2. Today is the deadline for real-life "Super-Hero" nominations as part of the Kane County Cougars  on Friday, July 15. Fans are asked to submit stories, 200 words or less, of someone in the community who has made a lasting impact on their life.

3. Geneva's will meet at 7 p.m. in . The mission of the Cultural Arts Commission is to create a diverse cultural arts experience for members of the community. They partner with the art and business community, local government, and the education and private sectors to develop economic growth through cultural opportunity. 

Everyone is invited to attend tonight's meeting and new volunteers are always welcome.

4. If you can't make it to Spain this year for the annual Running of the Bulls, consider taking a smaller trip to  instead. In honor of the Festival of San Fermin and Pamplona's famous bulls, Gibby's will have a special menu of fine Spanish wines available at the bar. 

This special runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Saturday.

5. Head over to the Kane County Courthouse tonight to see the  from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Featured in the show are antique, classic, custom, sport, and muscle cars. 

This is a family-friendly event with plenty of food and music to enjoy; admission is free.
