Fireworks, theater and music options lead to the Fourth of July.

We’ve got a few good bets for when the work week is over and you're ready to get out. Check our picks for the activities to hit.

  • Why Go: The Chicago bluesman and his band make their first trip to Geneva.

 

2. LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

  • Why Go:Fox Valley Repertory's Summer Youth Ensemble presents  July 2-16, 2011 at Pheasant Run Resort's Mainstage, as part of the inaugural St. Charles Summer Theater Fest.

  • Why Go: Friday night is Harry Potter theme night (and fireworks), and Saturday, Sunday and Monday are the fireworks. For Genevans, the Fourth of July fireworks options are Batavia and St. Charles (see below) or the Cougars here at home.

4. JULY 4TH CELEBRATION

  • Where/When: 9 a.m. Monday at , 8 North Ave., St. Charles.
  • Why Go: Picnic and activities all day. The Fox Valley Concert Band will perform in the amphitheater from 4-5:30 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to dark, local favorite Red Woody will rock the stage, playing contemporary favorites and alternative hits. The fireworks start at dusk.
  • Pricing: Free.

 

5. FIREWORKS

  • Where/When: Monday evening at , 326 Millview Dr., Batavia.
  • Why Go: The park will open at 5 p.m. with food vendors, and at 7 p.m. a local band will take the stage. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.
  • Pricing: Free.

 

BONUS

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS

  • Where/When: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at , 4051 East Main St., St. Charles.
  • Why Go: Jules Verne's novel was adapted for the  by American playwright Mark Brown, and this award-winning stage adaptation is written for a small ensemble of actors who portray 39 characters.
  • Pricing: $29-$39.
