5 Fun Things to Do This Weekend—Like a Film Festival or a Viking Ship, Perhaps?

The Geneva Film Festival, the Viking Ship and Earth Day top the lineup of things to do this weekend.

We've got a local band with local musicians playing a local venue. We've got Earth Day and a Spring Fling. But most importantly, we've got a major league film festival right here in the heart of Geneva, with dozens of independent films and a lot to see.

1. PARAGON

  • Where/When: 9:30 p.m. Friday at , 584 South Randall Road, St. Charles.
  • Why Go: The local rock/alternative/reggae band . And the band members are from Geneva and St. Charles.
  • Pricing: $6.

2. FILM FESTIVAL

  • Where/When: Thursday night, Friday and Saturday at , 35 N. River Ln., Geneva.
  • Why Go: This year’s selection of world-class films at the fourth annual come from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil and India.

3. HEALTHY COMMUNITY—HEALTHY EARTH

  • Where/When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at , 1 E.  State St.
  • Why Go: Geneva’s Earth Day event will be a time to gather information about opportunities to improve the environment.
  • Pricing: Free.

4. SEE THE VIKING SHIP

  • Where/When: 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16 at Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Drive
  • Why Go: Learn about ship's amazing voyage from Bergen, Norway, to the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and its subsequent adventures.  
  • Pricing: $5 for adults, $3 for visitors 13-19, free for children 12 and under.

5. RECORD STORE DAY AT KISS THE SKY

  • Where/When: Midnight Friday at Kiss the Sky, 301 W. State St.
  • Why Go: Celebrate Record Store Day and hear great music. A Midnight Sale Party will be held next door at Bistro Thai from 10 pm - 1 am featuring live performances by Kid, You’ll Move Mountains and Eric Mueller.
  • Pricing: Free, I think

  • Where/When: 9-12:30 p.m. Saturday at , 3341 W. Main St., St. Charles.
  • Why Go: The three-piece band original material and rock covers.
