Marklund Provides Fun Activities through Camp M.A.P.L.E

With school being out of session for the summer, it is time for the clients at Marklund to go to camp. For 8 years, Camp M.A.P.L.E has given Marklund’s young clients something to look forward to attending for the summer.

Camp M.A.P.L.E, which stands for “Marklund’s Angels Provide Love for Everyone,” and is a 4-week summer program for those residents at the Marklund Children’s Home, , in Bloomingdale who attend school during the year. Those who live at the children’s home have severe and profound developmental disabilities. This year’s camp runs July 22-Aug. 16. From 10 a.m.- 12 noon each day of the camp, children go on outings that include visits to nature centers and water parks, and other activities such as swinging, arts and crafts and playing with the parachute.

Camp M.A.P.L.E is made possible by staff and volunteers who help over the summer.

“The main reasons we provide Camp Maple is to keep our clients active during the summer and to help our clients have ‘Everyday Life’ experiences,” said Gunjan Patel, Director of Children’s Services at Marklund, who noted that Marklund’s vision is to make everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities. “It allows them to keep attentive and gives them the stimulation they need over the summer months.”

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up on Marklund’s website at www.marklund.org.
