Kane County Riverboat Fund's $55,000 Donation Helps Improve Marklund

Marklund, a not-for-profit organization specializing in the care of children and adults with severe disabilities, recently received a significant contribution toward renovations of a residential building at its Mill Creek Campus in Geneva from the Kane County Riverboat Fund.

The Kane County Riverboat Fund, which is comprised of 7.5% of the annual income of the Grand Victoria Riverboat Casino in Elgin, awarded Marklund a grant of $55,000 to renovate the 10-year old flooring of its Marklund Tommy Home. The flooring had extensive wear and tear due to wheelchairs tracking in dirt and salt from the outdoors.  The generosity of this award allowed Marklund to upgrade the flooring, with antimicrobial carpeting, and installing vinyl in the dining area, for easier clean-up after meals. The mobility of the clients at Marklund also caused damage lower walls, so with that in mind, the grant also funded the installation of corian base on the walls to protect from future damage. The Tommy Home is one of six 16-bed residential buildings on the Geneva campus.

In addition, the contribution supported the replacement of asphalt outside the facilities, to ensure the safety of staff, clients, volunteers and visitors.
