Jewel-Osco, Bimbo Bakeries Partner to Help Fight Hunger

Representatives from Jewel-Osco and Bimbo Bakeries USA came together Friday at Northern Illinois Food Bank’s West Suburban Center in Geneva to make a donation to help solve hunger locally.

The donation stemmed from a recent partnership between Jewel-Osco and Bimbo Bakeries USA to donate to the food bank a portion from every sale of Bimbo seasonal items from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2013. The program generated $4,646.80 to help Northern Illinois Food Bank’s efforts to feed hungry neighbors across 13 counties in northern Illinois. The donation will allow Northern Illinois Food Bank to provide more than $37,000 of groceries to neighbors in need.

“We’re fortunate that partners like Bimbo look to us to be their partners in programs to help the community,” said Missy Wyatt, community relations manager at Jewel-Osco. “It’s important for all of us to stop hunger in Chicagoland.”

Northern Illinois Food Bank provides food to more than 60,000 people each week through innovative programs and a network of 800 partner food pantries and feeding programs. Last year, the food bank provided the equivalent of 42 million meals to those in need. Every $1 donated to Northern Illinois Food Bank provides $8 worth of nutritious groceries for our hungry neighbors.

“Northern Illinois Food Bank is top shelf in my book,” said Ron Davis, director of retail accounts at Bimbo Bakeries USA. “If I can help them in any way, whether it’s physically packing boxes or giving personal or corporate donations, I’m all in.”
