DLA Architects Awards Local Student

For 16 years, DLA Architects, Ltd. has awarded scholarships to graduating high school seniors for their demonstrations of knowledge and interest in architecture. Students submitted videos highlighting how their educational spaces have created a quality learning environment, a challenge inspired by the firm’s “form follows learning” philosophy. Since its inception, the THINK [about architecture] Scholarship Program has helped hundreds of students pay for classes, books, and other higher education necessities. From a group of $250 School Level Scholarship winners, two State Level winners have recently been selected by DLA Architects.

This year’s first place State Level Scholarship award of $1,000 was presented to Michael Zimmer of Elgin High School. DLA felt Michael did an excellent job of thinking beyond the existing and envisioning the potential of an effective learning environment. In addition, Cynthia Barrios from Ridgewood High School was awarded $500 as this year’s State Level Runner Up. The company recognized Cynthia for capturing the special features of the space in such an effective way.

Both students will be presented their awards at “A Day in the Life of an Architect,” an event hosted by DLA as a bonus for the scholarship winners. The event will give each student a chance to work with and observe an architectural professional for the day.
