Moveable Feast is Not to Be Missed.

Stuck in a rut, I ventured to an old stand-by for lunch. Trying something new at Moveable Feast proved to be worthwhile!

I don't know whether it's the weather, but lately I've been in a bit of a rut. Day after day it's the same-old same-old. Waking up to Tuesday's gloomy grey sky did little to shake me out of my funk. Sure, I had lunch with my mom to look forward to, but I wasn't feeling like trying anything new. So, we headed, one day early, to my regular Wednesday lunch spot -- Moveable Feast.

Arriving at this downtown Geneva hotspot just after noon, I realized that I was not the only one who felt a need for the familiar. Several regulars I recognized graced the tables, and in line I found myself between a few friends.

Moveable Feast offers several salads each day, a couple of sandwich options, an entree or two -- such as BBQ chicken or Skirt Steak Quesadillas, quiche, and various soups. October also features a "grilled cheese of the day." I usually go for the 3 Salad Plate, which allows me to sample a little of this and a little of that. But on this visit the grilled cheese of the day was calling my name. I ordered it, along with a couple of sides, knowing that my mother was sure to share a bite or two of her fabulous-looking salads.

We snagged a table (Moveable Feast has only a handful) and dug in. Sweet potato salad from my mom's plate was vibrantly orange and savory-sweet. Her creamy chicken salad was as delicious as ever. And the pomegranite seeds in her couscous made colorful companions to the healthy grain.

My plate was just as tasty. BLT pasta salad was a spicy surprise. Dotted with strips of real bacon, crisp lettuce, and cherry tomatoes, this rotini was not the typical bland pasta salad that I would expect somewhere else. All of this was great. But the grilled cheese of the day was the winner. Whipped goat cheese with rosemary nestled between two slices of crunchy raisin/ walnut bread, this was not your mother's grilled cheese.  It was absolutely delicious. I was so glad that I tried something new at Moveable Feast. In a small way, I'd gotten myself out of that rut. But not so much that I couldn't grab my usual Krispy Swirl on the way out the door.

If you have not had an opportunity to stop into Moveable Feast, I strongly recommend you do so. Part specialty store, part restaurant, part bakery, it is filled with incredible bites and delights. It is not to be missed.
