Western Avenue School Garden Dedicated to Mary Bencini

The dedication ceremony will be held at 1:20 p.m. Sept. 13 at Western Avenue School.

Western Avenue School Principal Ron Zeman is hosting a Garden Dedication on Friday, Sept. 13, that will honor former WAS teacher Mary Bencini.

The dedication ceremony will be held at 1:20 p.m. at Western Avenue School, 1500 Western Avenue, Geneva.

Jay Womack, director of Ecological Landscape Design, will speak about the significance of the garden and what it can provide for our school and community.

Mary Bencini was a longtime Geneva school teacher, historian and education advocate who died following a crash on Easter weekend 2012. Reports later would indicate that a heart attack was the likely cause of the crash that took her life far too soon, at the age of 62.
