Geneva's newest school opened in August 2009, with anticipation and enthusiasm, Principal Darcy Thompson said in her letter to parents and the community.

The school has 353 students and hosts districtwide and Mid Valley special education classes that bring the total number of students to about 380.

Fabyan Elementary is a modern facility, with spacious classrooms, art, music, cafeteria/stage, gymnasium and computer labs. The building is shaped like an "E,"  with three wings that branch from the main corridor. Kindergarten, first and second grades each have a wing on the first floor, and third through fifth grades each have a wing on the second floor.

Students from Western Avenue Mill Creek and Heartland Elementary School came together to form Fabyan in 2009-10. An active PTO and staff made the first year of the school a special experience.

"We have been refered to as the fun school," Thompson said. "I guess the word is out. At any elementary school, there's a sense of welcoming. And the climate I want to establish and we have established is one of caring, nurturing and genuineness—that we are fun. I think when students feel comfortable and cared for, they feel a chance to be risk-takers and problem-solvers."
