Patience, Planning and Collaboration Yield Productivity and Pain-Free Commute
I know I am not alone when it comes to the delays faced at the Kautz Road/Rt. 38 railroad crossing on the eastern edge of Geneva. Heck, how many times have we all been stopped for a train, or two, or three, when trying to head east or west on Rt. 38 traveling to and from Geneva?
Too many times?
Yes, way too many times.
Thanks to the stick-to-itiveness of the City of Geneva, City of West Chicago, Kane County, DuPage County and DuPage Airport Authority, in about 15 months commuters traveling east and west along Rt. 38 at Kautz Road will no longer experience the delays caused by commuter trains – and worse – freight trains (sometimes one after another) crossing the intersection at the sometimes snail's pace.
I have had the privilege of working with the communities and agencies listed above to once and for all relieve the inefficiencies inherent in that railroad/vehicle crossing by successfully securing the cooperation, as well as funding from multiple sources to eliminate one of the greatest and most frustrating traffic congestion issues facing our community.
The City of Geneva will invest close to $300,000 as part of the overall improvements. The final project will allow for the unfettered access of both vehicles and rail traffic to travel east and west.
In addition, a clearer development picture will emerge for Geneva’s Southeast Corridor by encouraging more light industrial development – necessary to broaden our tax base and provide relief for property tax payers – and create a smoother travel pattern for people traveling to and from Geneva.
I encourage everyone who has the opportunity to travel east on Rt. 38 to Kautz Road to take a look at the construction taken place already.
What appears to be a “hodge-podge “ of activity will soon yield a project that reflects the patience, planning and collaboration of many communities and will soon produce greater productivity for all of us and, equally important, reduce the stress, pain and frustration of being delayed.

Dear Geneva,
Where are all the fricken' reporters? The City of Geneva isn't "investing" $300,000 in this improvement - they no choice! The law requires them to pay that cost to move the utilities so the project can move forward.
Not only that, but this is a County and State initiated project that has been on the books for quite some time. Though Geneva certainly provided input, they're basically along for the ride.
