New Report: Half of Americans Could Be Obese by 2030? NYC Obesity 50% in 2011

There is a disturbing report that predicts obesity in 2030 could be 50 percent from 33 percent in 2011. Remember it was 10 percent in '70s.

Look at healthcare costs. There are three reasons for their sharp rise.

1) Obesity

2) Changing age mix—more older people

3) Newer tests, more use (fear of malpractice if not using these NEW TESTS by a doctor).

In spite of good productivity in health care (the stay in hospital for baby delivery as an example; better surgical techniques), this trend could boost healthcare costs.

Obesity affects digestive diseases also, The obese tend to have these diseases two times more than people who are not obese.

Mayor Bloomberg of New York City fought to ban smoking in public places in NYC, and this trend spread.

Now he is pushing to ban LARGE SIZE sugary soda in NYC. The Health Department favored his request—but many in the soda industry are protesting.

Mayor Bloomberg says that obesity in NYC is an epidemic—50 percent of the population is obese.

So this report saying we may be headed to 50 percent in 2030 is not far fetched. Look at NYC in 2011 with a 50 percent obesity rate.

Rising Obesity for 33% means "Rising Health Care costs" for all.
Also read Associated Press article on Medicare under Obama or Romney.
Obama plan means NO Vouchers--but Higher Premiums, higher deductibles and lower payments for providers.
There will be an advisory board that will monitor the MEDICARE and recommend actions.
So Rising Obesity expenses will affect Medicare for sure and also other people under 65.
