Now that the general election is nearly a month behind us, it feels like the partisan attacks have moved from the limelight to the shadows. While we may never rid our system of government from this partisanship, we can, however, rid ourselves of this partisanship, in at least when it comes to our hometown. When I first decided to seek office in Geneva four years ago, a lot of people would ask me, “Why do you want to get into politics?” My simple response to this question is, quiet frankly, “I don’t.” I have no desire to plunge myself into the world of politics, to take sides simply for unnecessarily, or to make a decision purely for personal gains. Politics has no place in the decision-making that goes on in Geneva. There are those who will argue that you can never truly escape politics, but their definition of the term likely differs from my own. Those that sit on our elected, (as well as appointed), boards, councils, and committees must make their decisions based on the information they have gathered on the matter, coupled with their constituents view points. 

This is why I am running as an independent candidate. There is no room for partisanship in Geneva’s government, whether it is to a political party, a person, or a policy. A candidate that is free thinking and realistic, that is in tune with their constituents. While we separate ourselves from the partisanship of higher government, we must remain aware of the fact that the decisions made at those higher levels have real impacts on our community. By electing a leader that is independent we can ensure that Geneva further improves its financial position, listens to its residents on issues such as taxes, and continually listens to and acts on issues facing our local businesses. I cannot and will not make promises I cannot keep, but I do promise to remain independent and do what is best for the city of Geneva now and into the future.
