The Geneva High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is always looking for nominees. Give us some suggestions!
The Geneva Athletic Hall of Fame is seeking your help.
We're looking to name Geneva High School's best athletes, based on their performance in high school, their sports successes following high school and their achievements as citizens outside of sports.
To be eligible, the inductee must be a former Geneva High School athlete, coach, benefactor or supporter. Athlete nominees must have been graduated from high school for at least five years.
The inductees for 2011 are three beloved Geneva coaches: John Barton, Jerry Vitton and Julie Koivula.
The 11thannual induction ceremonies for the Vikings’ Athletic Hall of Fame are scheduled for Saturday evening, Jan. 22, in the school’s main contest gymnasium, during halftime of the Geneva-vs.-Elgin varsity basketball game (set to tip off at 6 p.m.)
If you have suggestions for future inductees, please leave a comment here, along with your name. Or contact e-mail Rick Nagel at rickn@patch.com. You can also e-mail Athletic Director Jim Kafer at jkafer@geneva304.org.

Take your pick from the Class of '86 (by the way Joan Wallner, who is already an inductee, is from that class, not 1966 as listed above). Varsity football did very well, some receiving scholarships to college. The track team set numerous records (and went downstate), though I believe they have been recently broken by the current awesome athletes at GHS.
Scott Fintzen went on to compete at Georgetown. Currently he resides in Geneva and has not only served the community as an alderman, he is very active in scouting. He is a partner with Gaido & Fintzen law firm.

Alex Pokorny, Class of 2005 . QB on the football team also starred in basketball. Alex led the most recent resurgence, under Coach Wiz, of the Geneva football team. He was an All-State Award recipient his senior year. He was a dual threat to score at any time. The team hadn't been past the first round of the playoffs since 1992 until he arrived. With alot of help from the rest of the team, the Vikings were Conference Champions and 6A semi-finalists (final 4) in 2004. He went on to play at Wheaton College and is currently a young financial professional.
