Heavy rains Tuesday bring a National Weather Service Flood Watch and Hazardous Weather Outlook.
The National Weather Service-Chicago Flood Watch for our neck of the woods continues to at least 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30.
Much of Geneva's southwest side was without power for more than 90 minutes Tuesday night. Much of the power was back on by 9 p.m. Unconfirmed reports said two transformers were out.
Strong winds of up to 60 mph might have contributed to the problems.
Tuesday's record-setting January warmth was a precursor to severe thunderstorms that became more widespread Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Accumulating snow is possible Wednesday. The snow should start after 1 p.m. and temperature will fall to around 26 by 5 p.m. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
Because the ground is still frozen in much of the area—with only the top couple inches thawed—a lot of rainfall is likely to become runoff, resultiing in the rapid rise of streams and rivers. Flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas is possible.
"A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts ... Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop," the NWS said.

Why is it that whenever we experience a power outage in geneva, and there have been many in the past year, there is no resource for obtaining information on the cause and possible duration. I'm just saying. . .

Why do we keep experiencing power losses on such a continual basis? Especially when this did not turn into a major storm other than some continual rain and fog? What is going on here?
