Thanks Rudy! I appreciated the kind words... are you the same Rudy that often calls Dick Kay's radio show?

In the bygone print age, consumers bought newsprint pages and companies paid writers and artists for the contents. In this digital age, consumers and companies want content for nothing, on electronic pages in name only.

It's a shame we won't be seeing these cartoons on AOL patch any longer. What's wrong with these large media companies?

The answer, and the problem, is in the name: "media company." These are headed by people trained in business who think they can run any industry they commandeer. Their guiding principles can be contained in a spreadsheet cell. The principles of open debate, the public's right to know, free speech, watchdog role, etc., -- quality over cost -- were held by the founders of the companies that the businessmen purchased.
