Do you have any ideas about what could be done for the Charlestowne Mall and the surrounding area? City officials want to know.
Residents, property owners, and members of the business community are encouraged to participate in a visioning workshop for the Charlestowne Mall and surrounding area starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the St. Charles City Council Chambers, 2 E. Main St.
Officials plan to take input from this workshop to draft a key focus area plan for the East Gateway area, as part of the city’s Comprehensive Plan, which is under development now.
Anyone also can share their thoughts through the project website at www.stcharlesil.gov and click on the “Comprehensive Plan” badge at the bottom of the page.

The answer is a mixed use development. Turn the top floors into luxury apartments/townhomes with no public access. Close off the center court and reserve it as a promenade/party area for the owners/renters. Keep the big stores and theatres, but no access to the promenade; outside access to stores/theatre only. Put in grocery store/drug store, restaurants, etc. for the convenience of the residents with outdoor access for others, but private entrances via promenade for owners/rents.. Convert a portion of the lower level to indoor parking for residents as well.

DON'T TEAR IT DOWN. Just because u don't care about a place doesn't mean others do, when It can still be a great place to go to.
Put a Dave and busters on the sears area. That will definetly attract new stores to come in. Or else a nordstroms to compete with Von maur as said ealier

How about a youth center, for kids of all ages ? Dance workshops, art classes, tumbling, creative writing... all the programs being cut by the state..
And when you finally decide what to do with the space, kindly call the Village of Matteson (IL) and help them in deciding what do with with all the abandoned buildings in that town....

I agree with taffygirl. Instead of spending millions of dollars to uild a youth center or park district center use the mall.

Return it to what it once was , a great and busy shopping center. Fix the major reason stores left: high rents due to crippling high property taxes. Our government killed this one off. Retailers fled to cheaper lower taxed open air shopping. A real pain in bad weather.

Tear it down! Why is the city wasting tax payer dollars trying to run a mall when they can't run a city. Government can't do ANYTHING efficiently!
To everyone saying put this in or that.... If private enterprise could make money at that damned mall theyd already be there. Tear it down!!!
