Some St. Charles Streets Close Friday for Parade

St. Charles East’s homecoming parade steps off at 1 p.m. today.

The city of St. Charles will close off portions of 7th and Illinois streets from 12:45 to about 1:45 p.m. Friday for the 2012 St. Charles East High School homecoming parade, which steps off at 1 p.m.

The St. Charles Police Department, in a release, said the parade would require the closure of:

  • Illinois Street between 7th Street on the west side of the Fox River and 3rd Avenue on the east side of the river.
  • 2nd Street (Route 31) for a short period of time as the parade crosses 2nd street and travels eastbound.

A detour route for Route 31 will be posted using West Main Street (Route 64), 7th Street, and Prairie Street, the release states. Trucks using Route 31 will be detoured to Randall Road. There will be restricted parking on the detour and parade routes as well as the parade staging area. Parking will be restricted on South 2nd and 3rd avenues.

Parking will be restricted on South 6th Street between Main and Indiana streets. Parking also will be restricted on Walnut Street between 7th and 5th streets, the release states.

The release states motorists are urged to use care and to watch for pedestrians. Traffic assistance will be provided by police and emergency management personnel at key intersections. Motorists strongly are encouraged to use alternate routes and be mindful of temporary parking restrictions.

Traffic delays may be lengthy.
