Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Kane County Saturday

The Tri-Cities were in for a very nasty storm Saturday afternoon.

Editor's note: We have posted an update on the storm damage and affected events. To read it and view damage photos, click here.

Here is our initial post from 3:27 p.m. Aug. 4.:

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 4:15 p.m., Aug. 4 for most of the Chicago area, including Kane County.

At 2:56 p.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-size hail and destructive winds in excess of 70 mph, according to a weather alert.

These storms were located along a line extending from Winnebago to Rochelle to 7 miles west of Paw Paw and moving east at 55 mph.

Thunderstorms will be near Plano at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and will continue in our direction.

The weather service stresses that these storms have a history of producing widespread wind damage and quarter-sized hail across Ogle County.

There is no word on if the storm will still be just as intense in Kane County, but please seek shelter now inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.

Sue,
My wife is an artist at the Art in your eye event. She said there were several tents blown down or damaged. Some damage to artwork, but most were able to get their work protected before the storm hit. No known injuries. Her tent came through ok, possibly some mjnor damage to a few pieces of art, won't know for sure until tomorrow. She is fine. Shaken, but fine.

Power was out at Hughes Creek Golf Course. A reader reported that a tent collapsed at Cougars stadium, injuring two people. That last is unconfirmed at this time. -RN
