Real Steel: Thieves Lift 1,100 Pounds of Metal Product From Miner Enterprises
They talk about thieves having light fingers, but whoever pulls off this heist needs a strong back, as well.
Anybody hazard a guess on what 1,100 pounds of steel and iron might earn on the open market?
Me neither. But I do see an article on metal prices.com saying there's been a sizeable boost in scrap prices in Chicago in March.
In the category of "Theft Over $500" in the Geneva Police Department reports comes the unusual news of a steel steal at the appropriately named Miner Enterprises, 1200 E. State St.
Someone took 1,100 pounds of steel lock handles and ductile iron side bearings from the company sometime between Feb. 22 and Feb. 25, Geneva police reports said.
The stolen property is a product of the plant, and the materials were taken from the rear exterior of the property. A report said the total value of the items stolen is forthcoming.
According to its website, Miner Enterprises, Inc. has been a major developer and manufacturer of superior railcar components since 1894.
