Readers' Choice: Where's the Best Place to Dine Outdoors?

St. Charles, Batavia and Geneva have wonderful opportunities to sit outside and enjoy the weather, the wine, the coffee or the cuisine. Which will be chosen as best in the 2012 Patch Readers' Choice Awards?

We're putting out an all-points bulletin for Al Fresco. Is Al Fresco in the house?

Of course not. Al fresco is outside. That's where you'll find the most relaxing and romantic places to dine or talk over a glass of wine, an ice cream cone, gelato or cup of espresso.

Years ago, a friend mentioned how much the Tri-Cities reminded him of Europe. The river views, the shops, the beautiful outdoor cafes and restaurants.

As you might have noticed, we're seeking Patch 2012 Readers Choice selections in 25 business categories. But there might be none more competitive that this category of Best Outdoor Dining.

Nominations were accepted on Geneva, Batavia and St. Charles Patch through July 9.

Winners in all Readers' Choice categories will be announced on Aug. 24.

The poll will open to accept votes from registered Patch users starting on July 23 and close at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 17.

So, set down your wine glass, turn to your laptop and start making your selection in our Patch poll. And while you're at it, ask your buddy Al Fresco to join you.

Fiora's in Geneva - hands down romantic!

Geneva:
That would have to be Fiora's for hands down the best outdoor dining atmosphere but at the pricier end of the spectrum. Wildwood is a close second. Foxfire is quiet but doesn't have the view. We often grab lunch at Graham's and All Chocolate Kitchen has a great new seasonal outdoor space by Past Basket for gelato and drinks. Stockholms has an outdoor space that we utilize often.

Aurelio's Pizza has done a fabulous job with their patio and is affordably priced.

St. Charles:
Pub 222 has a great courtyard.

Batavia:
[the soon to be] Pal Joey's in Batavia has a great riverfront patio

Any dining that fronts to State Street or North Avenue is too loud in my experience.

Vila Verona - no view of the river, but definitely a feeling of being transported to another place. Great food and service and you can retire to the bar for live music after dinner.

Nothing else in the tri-cities beats either of Geneva's best, but a choice -- how can you make one? Fiora's, Villa Verone -- Villa Verone, Fiora's? It's so hard to choose. But, they are just different enough that they can both be enjoyed equally. Why limit ourselves to just one?

Villa Verone is my choice for top quality food, excellent service and superior selection of refreshing beverage... Here you are treated like family... always very comfortable. The best live music on weekends. Simply, the best of the best, that the Fox Valley has to offer...

Do you still work at Fiora's, Leroy? The three times we've tried to stop and just have a beverage we're told they are closed for lunch and will reopen at 5. Why isn't the bar open all day? Especially during festivals, doesn't make sense???
