St. Charles police did just about everything they could to help a 35-year-old Wayne woman get home safely after she had too much to drink—and the woman still found a way to get arrested for DUI. 

St. Charles police arrested Lindsay Erin Welch, 35, of 33W179 Surrey Road, Wayne, on Jan. 9 on charges of drunken driving and DUI with blood-alcohol greater than .08 after she told a taxi driver to take her back to her car.

According to St. Charles police reports, an officer was alerted to a situation of a woman who appeared intoxicated. A second officer then called a cab to take Welch home.

Later, police dispatch contacted the second officer to say the cab driver had driven Welch home, only to be told to drive her back to her car, which was parked downtown. The officer drove to the car and found Welch asleep in the drivier’s seat with the car running, reports said.

Welch performed tests for sobriety and was arrested for DUI. She also submitted to a test for blood-alcohol level and was given the second charge of DUI greater than 0.08.

She was released after posting bond and given a court date.
