This is a contest you have to sample for yourself. What will it be: the Pumpkin Spice Gelato at the All Chocolate Kitchen or the Apple Pie Gelato at 318 Coffeehouse? You decide.
When we asked for nominations for the best fall treat in Geneva, we received some wonderful suggestions in the comment field.
Two of the entries were the clear winners with multiple votes, and they both happen to be gelatos! With an alliteration like "Geneva gelato," we knew there was a special Patch poll in the works, which is exciting, but left only one question.
What the heck is a gelato?
According to Wikipedia, "gelato is the Italian word for ice cream and sorbet. Italians use the word gelato to mean a sweet treat that is served frozen."
So now, it's your turn to try these great gelatos, and let us know which is the best. The nominees for Best Geneva Gelato are:
Here are the rules: Voting starts now and goes until 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. Geneva Patch will count 1 point for each vote and 5 points for each comment. So you can really make hay by voting for your favorite and leaving a comment that describes the experience. (Make sure to mention the name of the business in your comment.)
May the best Geneva gelato win.

Gelato,as produced in Italy, has a much higher fat content, than American "ice cream", and therefor, is known for its richness! So, for the real vote, on this wonderful treat, is to make sure that it is actually gelato, and not, ice cream!!! Easily done, by "mouth feel!"

This is a snide and petty article overall. Its hard for me to believe that there are gelato "masters" working at Graham's, as opposed to The All Chocolate Kitchen, owned and run by world renowned Chef Alain Roby who has been in the business for more than 35 years and started his culinary career in France. Furthermore, Chef Roby's wife and business partner is a native born Roman who certainly knows gelato from "gelato". Comparing two such completely different flavors is as pointless as directly comparing the two establishments. Comparing like flavors would have created a much more accurate poll, especially considering the wide array of products offered at each location, one a cozy coffee house, the other, an elegant European dessert bar. Each vendor has their own unique ambiance, product selection and accolades. Siting wikipedia, REALLY?!?!?! Why not reference bona fide culinary resources such as "The New Food Lover's Companion" for example? To further dispel the misinformation from wiki, gelato is dairy based and sorbeto is water and fruit puree based. This article only creates animosity. The All Chocolate Kitchen and Graham's each have plenty to offer, both residents and visitors. By the way, I prefer the All Chocolate Kitchen's Pumpkin Spice Gelato for its authenticity, texture and fresh ingredients.

There's plenty of room in Geneva for both All Chocolate Kitchen and Graham's 318. Sometimes the decision is as simple as which establishment you're closer to at a given moment. Vive (and by golly, enjoy) la difference!

How is this even a question? We have the honor of having a famous chef in our town and he creates the best Gelato ever! But i am disappointment that this would be something it came down to. All Chocolate kitchen and Grahams should not have to "Battle" to claim their talents. This is just another way media messes with peoples minds. Anyway. I vote All chocolate Kitchen's pumpkin spice Gelato.

WOW. this is just so pathetic this is splitting the town apart. Can people each have their own favorites without creating a divided community? All Chocolate Kitchen is a great addition and grahams is nice to. All Chocolate Kitchens quality surpasses Grahams but it doesnt mean that we have to be judging them like this. All Chocolate Kitchen gets my vote. But Patch really should be cautious prior to starting something like this.

I became a fan of affogato (gelato with espresso poured over it) at 318. I'm an affogato regular. Just tried one at the All Chocolate Kitchen for the first time, and I'm a convert. The gelato was creamier, I got a larger scoop, and the espresso was more plentiful (2 shots; most of the time at 318 I get one).

Im ACK fan to the end! This place has made such a large impact to the Geneva Area with their amazing products and customer service. Gelato is good but All Chocolate Kitchens Gelato is the best I would say in the Chicago Area! Steve dolinsky from channel 7 apparently came their as well, that must be saying something!

Hello ACK Fans, and Grahams 318 fans I am sure you are aware of the recent poll posted by Geneva Patch regarding ACK and Grahams 318. The poll is called “The Battle of Gelatos”
We ask that you do not vote for us because we do not want to participate in something that is dividing the community. Patch.com having an inaccurate and biased polling system will not prove anything regarding who has the better product or store.
Battling for Gelato? Life is to short to battle for dessert. Geneva as a community battles the tough economy, battles cancer, battles child heart defects, and battles negative media. What benefit does a poll like this produce? Nothing, instead it produces animosity towards each other and an unneeded rivalry. I do not need to have a web blog determine who has what and who is better. Grahams is a family business and so are we.
Patch.com should not have created this tension and rivalry just to have “hits” on the page. The media is turning everyone against another. Take the time to just enjoy a cup of Gelato from either end of town. There is plenty of space for the both of us.
We just want to ensure everyone enjoys our product in the community we live in.
So ACK fans we ask of you to no longer Participate in the “Battle Of Gelato” and let Grahams take the win. We do not want to take part in this involuntary poll and wish them the best in their future.
We thank you for your support
I mean I just want to make some Gelato guys....
Merci
Chef Roby

Dear Chef Roby.......You clearly missed the point on the opportunity for some free advertising! Our little town is not so petty that we could possibly be divided by something as silly as Gelato! Take a big deep breath and relax and enjoy all the foot traffic you will be enjoying due to the fact that the name of your establishment does not reflect all the great things you have to offer.....such as your amazing gelato! Grahams is an institution in town and also has those fabulous windows that outsiders can glance in to while strolling by and see that they make chocolate. Your establishment isn't as fortunate, but just as good. So calm yourself down and enjoy the publicity!

Some of those comments are a bit weird. Either which way... the poll isn't really fair seeing as G318 is an institution here. Rightly so, Katlyn and I are there all the time. We like the relaxed ambiance and the coffee is always delish.
I think the quality of chocolate and coffee at ACK is very high. That said, and we were just discussing this... they should have put in leather booths along one side and then had some additional bar area.
Anyways, all said and done... both are fun places that offer their customers something different. I have my favorite location (and likely always will), but have enjoyed both.
I haven't tried ACK's pumpkin gelato so I have to refrain from voting :)
