Chamber sets its calendar. There's just a ton of stuff going on in Geneva this month.

 

Here's a look ahead at entertainment and fun events hosted by local businesses in the month of September, courtesy of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce.

First Fridays Art Gallery Walk (late 'til 9!) — Sept. 2

A self-guided art walk and reception to showcase the art galleries of Geneva “late ’til 9” the first Friday of every month. All galleries are within walking distance of each other. Many galleries provide refreshments; some have special events, artists show openings orlive performances. Crystal Life Technology Events — Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24

Each Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m., enjoy free workshops/events at Crystal Life Technology, 121 S. Third St., Geneva. Visit genevachamber.com’s calendar of events for moreinformation.

Improv Saturdays — Sept. 3

At 7 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month at Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin, GreenRoom Productions takes audience suggestions and stories and turns them into hilarious theatre.

The Fox Valley Folk Music & Storytelling Festival — Sept. 4-5

Held at Island Park in Geneva, eight stage areas present concerts, hands-on workshops, topical song and story workshops, dance, vocal and instrument classes and special things for the kids from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

Literacy Volunteers Golf Outing — Sept. 8

Sign up for Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley’s golf outing at Tanna Farms Golf Club, 39W808 Hughes Road, Geneva. Event includes a noon lunch with a 1 p.m. shotgun start, 5:30 p.m. pig roast, awards and auctions. Cost is $160/golfer. “Bleacher Bums” at Geneva Underground Playhouse– Sept. 9-25

Geneva Underground Playhouse is opening the 2011-2012 season with BLEACHER BUMS! The Geneva Underground Playhouse presents the 1998 version of the play conceived by Joe Mantegna and written and first performed in 1977 by members of the Organic Theater Company.

Performances are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are ON SALE NOW at www.GUPtheatre.org

Tailgate Kick Off Party at Cabooses — Sept. 10

Kick off the NFL season with Bad Medicine, Chicago's ultimate Bon Jovi Tribute Band, at 8 pm at Cabooses Bar & Grill, 300 Crescent Place, Geneva.

Prairie Landing Fall 2-Ball – Sept. 10-11

Saturday is a scramble and Sunday is better ball of two. Cost is $80 per team entry fee plus $79 green fees each day. Please call the golf shop at 630-208-7600. Prairie Landing is located at 2325 Longest Dr., West Chicago.

Dart Tournament — Sept. 12 and 26

Sharp Shooters: Join the Cabooses Crew at Cabooses Bar & Grill, 300 Crescent Place, Geneva at 7 p.m. for a monthly dart tournament.

Fall Acting Classes at Steel Beam – starting Sept. 12

Steel Beam Theatre, 111 W. Main St., St. Charles announces registration for Fall Acting Classes! Classes are available for students’ ages 6-14 years old. All classes focus on core aspects of performing and each session will end with an informal showcase that family and friends are welcome to attend! To register, please call 630-587-8521.

Brown Bag at Geneva History Center — Sept. 13

Join Geneva History Center, 113 Third St., Geneva at noon for this months BrownBag “A Centennial Celebration of St. Peters Church”. $5 Adults; $3 for GHC Membersand students.

Step Into Retail SBDC Workshop — Sept. 15

If you are considering or have recently opened a retail business, this workshop is for you!Owne rs of long-time Geneva retail business Persimmon Tree (now Shoppes at 127) will share their secrets to success! Topics include retail display, handling competition, buying analysis, location, and customer service.

Niche's 5-year Anniversary Celebration — Sept. 16

Friends of the Viking Ship Open House — Sept. 17

The public will have an opportunity to view the Viking Ship in Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Drive, Geneva. Friends of the Viking Ship (FOVS) will host a “Viking Visitor’s Day” from 1 to 4 p.m., describing the ship’s amazing voyage from Bergen, Norway, to the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition and its subsequent adventures. Fox Valley Marathon — Sept. 18

Ask the Doctor Seminar — Sept. 20

Join Dr. Neal Bowen, Psy. D. Licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist at Arden Courts of Geneva for a Free Ask the Doctor Seminar from 6–7:30 p.m. Sept. 20. The topic is “Dementia vs. Depression and Distinguishing the Types of Dementia." TCFS Friends Fall Fashion Show & Dinner — Sept. 22

Hike to Remember Loved Ones for Fox Valley Hospice— Sept. 24

Hike for Hospice, a 5K walk along the Fox River to benefit Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice will start at 10 a.m. at the Peg Bond Center, 151 Island Avenue in Batavia. This event is a way for family and friends to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one who has died, while at the same time supporting the programs of FVVH. Walk for Women’s Wellness — Sept. 25

Fearless Selling for Women SBDC Workshop — Sept. 27

Western Avenue Clothing Sale — Sept. 30 and Oct. 1

The Western Avenue School PTO has been hosting a semiannual gently used fall and winter clothing sale since 1981. This year's sale will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday and 8-11 a.m. Saturday. No strollers or children under 10 are allowed on Friday night. White tags are half priced on Saturday only. Admission is free. Prairie Landing Senior Championship – Sept. 30 & Oct. 1

Sundays are Special at Shoppes at 127 on Third st.in downtown Geneva. This Sunday Oct. 9, 2011 Kathleen Hardison will be demonstrating her technique for hand-painted ornaments from 1-4pm. She will also personalize the ornaments for free during the demonstration. Remember to Shoppe the Shops at 127.
