Happy Kids Day! Swedish Days Tips, Live Coverage, Radio Disney, Friday, June 22, 2012

Rick Does Swedish Days: Highlights include Radio Disney, Kids Day Parade, Mini Golf and Central Stage headliner 7th Heaven.

Happy Kids Day!

5:40 p.m. Shealeigh Rocks!

3:10 p.m.

Posted a Kids Day Fun photo gallery.

3 p.m.

If my Swedish Days food experience were the sledge hammer gave at the carnival, I'd be going home with a giant stuffed animal and a "He Man" title. Because I am hitting a home run, foodwise, on this Kids Day 2012.

Food Review #2: The Lingonberry Sundae at Graham's.

***** Rating: This treat, too, might require some Swedish heritage to truly enjoy. At Thanksgiving growing up, we didn't eat cranberries, we ate lingonberries. That and Swedish rye bread are what go with turkey and dressing in my mind. So, I like lingonberries. A lot. The slight bitterness of the berry is perfect with vanilla ice cream from Graham's. It sticks the landing for a perfect 5.0 from the Swedish judge at the Gastrodagarna Olympics.

2 p.m.

Lunch is well passed and well done.

Food Review #1: Laura Rush told me to try the Swedish Meatballs on a Stick from the American Legion Post beer garden/root beer garden. ALWAYS trust Laura Rush. You have to go inside the fence and order at the window. Do not be shy.

***** Rating: The Swedish meatballs on a stick are the first 5.0 on the 5-point Swedish Gastrodagarna scale in 2012. Served with gravy and a roll and earns its "Swedish" subtitle. This from a guy whose mom's maiden name is Shewalter.

Gossip: Heard from a friend at lunchtime where Jenny McCarthy might be renting in Geneva, but WILL NOT TELL. (I'm not very good at this gossip thing, am I.) Also want to underline that she is NOT staying with Mayor Burns. (See other failed gossip line in previous "Rick Does Swedish Days" story.)

12:45 p.m.

Kids parade is awesome! Here's a link to the Kids Parade Photo Story. More photos to come, plus a video of the whole parade!

Next: Food and a food review!

11:15 a.m.

If you love Disney, you'll love Radio Disney at Central Stage. First "show" is now until noon. Check out the photos and raw video.

NEXT: Kids Day Parade!

10 a.m.

I'm actually kind of excited to see what Radio Disney has to offer.

Tip #1: The Radio Disney crew is on Central Stage from 11 a.m. to noon—but the check-in for the kids parade is 11:45 a.m. at the library lawn, so get to Radio Disney early if you want to see the interactive games, etc. prior to the parade.

I was amazed at the Kids Day Parade last year—which showcased the most amazing costumes and use of duct tape I have ever seen.

Tip #2: There's also a Radio Disney show at 4 p.m. And at 5:30 p.m. NBT (Next Big Thing) winner Shealeigh takes the stage. There's a meet-the-talent session after.

Tip #3: This might be a good day to check out the library's used book sale. It runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some amazing inventory.

Tip #4: Mini golf is just $2 per child from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stone Creek Miniature Golf at Wheeler Park.
