Geneva HPC Reviews Former Wool and Company Exterior Rehab
The Historic Preservation Commission takes a look Tuesday at a proposal for some exterior rehab to the building at 23 S. Third St.
Geneva's Historic Preservation Commission is taking a look Tuesday at plans for some exterior rehab for the former Wool and Company building at 23. S. Third St.
The commission meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.
According to the HPC documents, Simon is hoping to restore the original facade to the building. You can find the full agenda packet here.
Applicant has removed the false façade that was installed on the building in the 1970s (see photographs) and is proposing to repair the existing brick façade and install new storefront systems in each of the three bays. The proposed storefront system will match those used in the storefronts to the south (at Mossy Twig & All Chocolate Kitchen “ACK”; see photos).
This section of the building is rated non‐contributing in the survey due to the false facade. Removal of the false façade and restoration/repair of the existing historic brick façade will greatly improve this building’s historic integrity.
From a site visit the brick appears to be in good condition and unlike the southern storefronts remains unpainted. Staff recommends repairing the façade and keeping it unpainted.
The applicant has stated that gooseneck light fixtures, similar to those used at the ACK, and signs either in the space above the storefront or on an awning will be considered for the tenants.
