CORRECTION: Geneva Christmas Tree Pickup Starts Week of Jan. 7

The city of Geneva Tweets a correction to previous announcements, noting that Christmas treess will be picked up curbside on the weeks of Jan. 7 and 14—not Jan. 14. and 21.

The city of Geneva website is correct now, and for the record, Christmas tree pickup will be on your usual collection days during the weeks of Jan. 7 and Jan. 14.

That means, if you live on the East Side and near West Side, you should have your tree on the curb by Thursday, Jan. 10 or Jan. 17. If you live on the far West Side, the tree should be out there by your garbage and recycling by Friday, Jan. 11 or Jan. 12.

There was a bit of confusion regarding the "week of" in the original website post, which said to put your trees out on the weeks of Jan. 14 and Jan. 21. But the city Tweeted the correction—another good reason to sign up to receive city Tweets.

"@CityofGeneva: CORRECTION: xmas trees will be collected week of Jan 7 & Jan 14. Place tree at curb by 7AM on the sched. refuse collection day. No sticker."

The city's website now posts the following:

CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY TREE PICKUP

The Public Works Department has scheduled a citywide collection of discarded live Christmas trees for a two period in January 2013. Christmas tree collection will take place on Jan. 10/11 and Jan. 17/18 on residents’ regular collection days by the city’s refuse contractor, Allied Waste.

Residents must place the tree at the edge of pavement or near the curb for collection no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled refuse collection day.

In order to ensure the timeliness and the integrity of the schedule, crews will not return for special pickups. Once the street has been completed, trees will not be collected until the following week.

Please remove all hard materials, ornaments, nails, stands, etc. from the trees.

NO REFUSE STICKER WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THIS SERVICE

All wreaths and roping must be placed out with normal trash on your scheduled refuse collection day.
