An Elburn man honored two years ago as an exemplary student at Kaneland High School now awaits sentencing on charges of possession of child pornography.

Scott Burgholzer faces probation or possible prison time for his conviction on one count of aggravated possession of child pornography when he is sentenced Dec. 20.

Geneva police were tipped to Burgholzer, who was 19 at the time, when a "Geek Squad" technician at Best Buy called authorities in December 2011 after a Best Buy employee found child pornography on Burgholzer's computer.

Kaneland High School named Burgholzer one of its students-of-the-term for Term 1 of the 2009-10 school year. The program recognizes students who exemplify commitment, character, leadership qualities and academic effort.

Burgholzer also was the junior leader of God’s Puppet Troupe, a group associated with the Congregational United Church of Christ in St. Charles, which did puppet shows for young people at the Marklund Home. He is the chief ops coordinator for the Chicago Chapter of USA Weather, Incorporated, according to the Examiner.com.
