23-Year-Old Woman Killed When Garbage Truck Crashes Into Her Car on Fabyan Parkway

A crash on Fabyan Parkway kills 23-year-old Monica Warner of North Aurora, injures the 22-year-old garbage truck driver and plays havoc with thousands of residents' morning commute.

A garbage truck slammed into a 2002 Saturn pullling out of a driveway on Fabyan Parkway early Wednesday morning, killing the 23-year-old driver and sending the garbage-truck driver to Delnor Hospital, Geneva police reports said.

Monica L. Warner, 23, of North Aurora was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries incurred as a result of the accident.

The driver of the garbage truck was identified as Matthew J. Flood, 22, of Carol Stream. Flood was transported to Delnor Hospital for unknown but not life-threatening injuries, reports said.

The fatal crash in the 200 block of Fabyan Parkway between Route 25 and Raddant Road jammed up morning commuter traffic in Geneva, Batavia and the surrounding area Wednesday morning.

Through evidence and statements, police determined that Warner exiting a private drive from the south side of the roadway, attempting to travel west. As her Saturn entered onto Fabyan Parkway, it was struck by the garbage truck, a 2006 Mack truck traveling east.

The accident is under investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team in conjunction with the Geneva Police Department.

"It is unknown at this time if there are any charges forthcoming," the Geneva Police Department press release said.

The crash took place around 6:04 a.m., and Fabyan Parkway was closed between Route 25 and Raddant Road from the time police arrived until about 10:52 a.m.

Initial reports had indicated that a car struck a garbage truck at Fabyan Parkway and Nagel Boulevard and that extrication was needed.

Traffic was rerouted to detours on Route 38 (State Street) in Geneva and to Wilson Street in Batavia.

Route 25 was backed up from Fabyan Parkway almost to Route 38. Police are asking drivers to avoid Route 25 and Kirk Road.
