Expect Lane Closures Near 1st Street in St. Charles Due to Parking Construction

Starting tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 30), expect to see some lane closures in the area of 1st Street, as St. Charles plans to build a 50-space temporary parking lot.

The city of St. Charles announced Tuesday plans to build a temporary, 50-space parking lot between 1st Street and the Fox River. Construction is scheduled to start tomorrow—Thursday, Aug. 30.

According to a release, the city is advising travelers to expect temporary lane closures on 1st Street during the construction, which is expected to take about three weeks between Main and Illinois streets.

Martam Construction Inc. is the contractor.

The project will include an asphalt walkway along the east side of 1st Street to provide access from Main Street to the parking lot, the release stated. The city also said the owners of the property at the southeast corner of Main and 1st streets will remove the chain-link construction fence and replace it with a new decorative fence.

During the day, the release states, there may be some temporary lane closures and construction traffic on 1st Street, the release states. It also advises motorists and pedestrians using 1st Street during the construction to pay special attention to roadway conditions, construction crews and equipment.

“We ask that you slow down and heed directions from the construction crews,” the release states.

During construction, the release states, a handicapped parking space on the east side of 1st Street will not be available. It will be relocated to the new parking lot when it is completed.
