Did you know that the Geneva Academic Foundation has raised more than $1 million for Geneva students? You can attend a GAF meeting tonight and find out how to help Geneva's kids.
And, President Lincoln's wife, Mary, spent some time at a hospital in Batavia. You can hear more about her "spiritual" side and her visit to the Fox Valley during a talk by the St. Charles Heritage Center at the library tonight, Thursday, Sept. 8. You might be amazed by what you'll learn.
1. The Geneva Academic Foundation will meet from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Geneva Community High School.
The Geneva Academic Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises money to fund scholarships and grants that benefit students in the Geneva School District. They have raised more than $1 million for Geneva schools since 1987.
2. The city of Geneva will have a Plan Commission Meeting at 7 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers. Tomight's meeting will discuss a new public parking lot on Campbell Street in downtown Geneva and a re-zoning of industrial areas for athletic training facilities.

3. The Geneva History Center is auctioning off a cliché verre or, magnification and colorful photographic impressions of natural life taken without a camera or film, by artist and current GHC exhibitor Maggie Foskett.
The Geneva History Center will be announcing the winners of its Geneva photo contest. The GHS also is taking bids for the silent auction until 6 p.m. Bid forms can be obtained from the front desk of the GHC or will be taken via e-mail at genevahistory@yahoo.com.
4. The St. Charles Heritage Center will have a lecture titled, Mary Lincoln and the Spiritualists from 7 to 8 p.m. at the St. Charles Public Library. After the death of her son, Mrs. Lincoln held seances at the White House in an attempt to contact him and other deceased relatives. You will learn more about the practice of seances during this time in history and also find out about Mrs. Lincoln's stay in Batavia.
This free event is part of the Thursday Night Lecture Series at the library. All ages are welcome to attend.
5. Fun Fact: Today is International Literacy Day. This day focuses on the worldwide literacy needs of more than 780 million adults who do not know how to read or write. International Literacy Day also aims to help the 94 to 115 million children who lack access to education.
