Churches Offer Ice Cream, Music and CPR

Plans coming together for 9/11 memorial events next weekend.

School may be back in session, but Geneva churches are still squeezing in a little summer fun before Labor Day. Ice cream and music, anyone?

Geneva Lutheran Church will host a CPR certification class presented by the American Heart Association at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the church, 301 S. Third St. Cost for the class and two-year certification is $35. For more information, e-mail Darla Craig at darla@genevalutheran.org.

St. Peter Catholic Church will kick off its 2011-12 music ministry with an ice cream social at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 1891 Kaneville Road. Current and prospective choir members will rehearse the New Mass Setting. For more information, call Anne at 262-1850 or Sherri at 845-9058.

The Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva will host a live studio concert by main stage performers at the Fox Valley Folk Fest at 7 p.n. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the church, 102 S. Second St. The concert will be broadcast live by WFMT public radio station. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors or festival volunteers, paid in advance; or $20/$15 at the door. To buy tickets, e-mail Fox Valley Folklore Society President Juel Ulven at juel@fvfs.org.

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is setting up its 2011-12 Dinner Club. Members take turns hosting dinners for six or more people, or bringing appetizers and desserts. Dinners are held once in October or November; once in January or February; and once in March or April. For more information or to sign up, e-mail Lela Lowe at Lela@theloweclan.net.

Next weekend area churches will host a plethora of remembrance events for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Watch Geneva Patch later this week for a roundup!
