Geneva and Batavia fire and police units reported to what scanners called a "fully engulfed" vehicle fire at the intersection of Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway at about 7:10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Officers at the scene said the driver recognized a sound coming from the engine and was able to escape the vehicle before it ignited into flames. No one was hurt, officials at the scene said.

The make and model of the vehicle were not recognizable, as the scorched-black husk was pulled onto a flatbed truck at about 7:40 a.m.

Police closed Fabyan Parkway west of Kirk Road while firefighters extinguished the blaze and repaired a spot in the road, which had been damaged by the intense heat. Most traffic appeared to have detoured to Raddant Road.

Kirk Road remained open while officers directed traffic north and south.

Patch reader J.T. Maurovich was in the car behind the vehicle that burst into flames Tuesday morning, and the first thing he did was call the police. After he made the call, he captured the attached photo and video on his cell phone.

Patch will follow up if more information becomes available.

Have seen this happen many times, probably electrical problems! Once a battery cable, or ignition cable shorts, it is almost certain that the car will go up! Electrical problems, are not to be ignored, as the result, well, you see the photograph!
