Burglars Smash Windows, Take Cash Register from Geneva Citgo Near Train Depot

About $250 to $300 is taken from the gas station and car wash located near the Geneva Metra station.

The Geneva Police Department confirmed Saturday that a burglary was reported Friday at the Geneva Citgo station, 618 S. First St.

Geneva Polce Department Cmdr. Julie Nash said the police report had not yet been completed but she could confirm that there was a burglary and cash was taken.

Several Patch readers called or e-mailed to ask what had happened.

"I stop there every day for a paper, and yesterday (Friday), there were several people there dusting for prints, and the front windows were smashed," one reader said.

Patel Joyesh, an employee of the Citgo, said Saturday that the burglary was discovered when employees arrived at work, around 5:30 a.m.

"They broke the front door and took the whole register," he said.

The register contained about $250 or $300 in cash.

Police Department personnel dusted for fingerprints, but the station remained open all day Friday and is open Saturday, March 16, Joyesh said.

"It's business as usual here today," he said.
