Dennis Wayne Hieggelke, 60, of Geneva, formerly of Bettendorf, IA, and Ottawa, IL, died Feb. 20, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 3, 1950, in Fargo, ND, the son of Harry and Glenna (nee Sander) Hieggelke. He was married to Janice Dawn Springan on Dec. 29, 1973, in Bismarck, ND.
Dennis was employed as the director of nuclear oversight for Exelon Nuclear Corporation.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn, of Geneva; four children, Michelle (Joseph) Saltiel of Elmhurst, IL, Julie Hieggelke of Grayslake, IL, Tracey Hieggelke of Forest Park, IL and Christopher Hieggelke of New York, NY; three grandchildren, Madeline, Zachary and Abigail Saltiel; brother Curtis (Estelle) Hieggelke of Joliet, IL; a sister Judy (Manard) Smith of Poway, CA, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Avenue, Batavia, IL. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 South Third St., Geneva, IL.
He will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Pastor Martha Halls will officiate. Interment will be private.
