Volunteers can adopt a road and pick it clean as part of the Kane County Adopt-A-Highway program.

The section of road you adopt will range between a half-mile and 2 miles in length. Adoption is for two years and groups are required to pick up litter at least once a year. Any adoption group that does two pickups in a year is eligible for a free t-shirt.

Adoption groups also get a sign along the roadway, acknowledging their work.

Each adoption group must attend a safety meeting and watch a video. The county provides warning signs and vests, among other safety measures. For every five people under age 18, there must be an adult supervisor 21 or older. No one under age 10 can participate.
